Postdoctoral Scholar in Systems Pharmacology

Posted on May 26, 2015

Description: A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences and the Icahn Institute for Genomics and Multiscale Biology (IIGMB). The position is to lead our efforts to develop and apply computational methods to identify novel drug repurposing opportunities, build better multiscale network models of disease, and innovate at the nexus of systems pharmacology and precision medicine.

The postdoctoral scientist will have the opportunity to work with the Clinical Data Warehouse (CDW) at  Mount Sinai.  The CDW contains electronic health record data (diseases, diagnoses, treatments, pathology reports, etc.) for more than 4 million patients treated at a top academic hospital in one of the most diverse communities in the world. The postdoctoral scientist will also have the opportunity to work with the Mount Sinai BioMe biobank, representing integrated genetic and clinical data for more than 25,000 patients. This position will also involve collaboration with leading pharmaceutical companies to reposition drug compounds and develop and apply novel precision medicine methods in clinical trials. The research lead by this position will be integral to the efforts of our translational bioinformatics and genomic medicine initiatives.

Primary responsibilities include designing and implementing research studies, collecting and analyzing data, preparing research results for publication, presenting at national and international meetings, and assisting in  the preparation of grant proposals. The focus of the research will be on the integration of multiscale molecular and clinical data towards building improved models of disease and drug response for precision medicine.

This position is mentored by Dr. Joel Dudley working under the broader institute leadership of Dr. Eric Schadt.

Informal inquiries regarding the position are welcome and can be sent to Dr. Dudley ([email protected]).

Requirements:

  • PhD (completed or near completion) in biomedical informatics, systems pharmacology, human genetics, computational biology, or a related field
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills with fluency in spoken and written English
  • Established track record of publishing in peer-reviewed research journals
  • Experience with computational, statistical and/or mathematical models
  • Familiarity with experimental molecular biology protocols and sequencing technology

The Institute for Genomics and Multiscale Biology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai seeks to comprehensively integrate the digital universe of information into research, training, and patient care and to develop programs that prepare students for careers in the future of healthcare and data science.

Interested and qualified candidates should submit a CV, cover letter, and statement describing their research interests.
