Description: The Institute for Next Generation Healthcare at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is looking for post-docs for our Systems Medicine efforts to develop and apply computational methods that expand our understanding of Skin diseases and enable new approaches to identify biomarkers and therapeutic options.

Requirements: The ideal applicant would have a PhD in computational biology or bioinformatics with a strong publication track record and some experience in the areas of biological networks, next-generation sequencing, or high-dimensional cytometry. However, a non-biological background with strong training in another area of science (e.g., physics or CS) may be appropriate. He or she would be very skilled in programming and using computers to solve problems (e.g. experience with C/C++, R/matlab, python/perl, SQL, HTML/java, etc.).

Expectations: The postdoctoral scientist will work with clinicians and scientists within the Mount Sinai Health System as well as other academic institutions outside of the United States as part of multi-disciplinary collaboration to integrate large-scale data sets into predictive models for skin disease and patient outcomes. The technical approaches used will emphasize data mining, machine learning, and data science. Research lead by this position will be integral to the efforts of our translational bioinformatics and systems immunology initiatives. This position is highly collaborative and applicants must be comfortable in a dynamic research environment comprised of students and staff from diverse backgrounds. He or she will be mentored by Dr. Brian Kidd working under the broader institute leadership of Dr. Joel Dudley.

Primary responsibilities: 1) Provide a unified model and framework for understanding and exploring Skin disease. 2) Discover new insights and ways to interpret existing data. 3) Prepare research results for publication. 4) Present at national and international meetings. 5) Identify novel biomarkers to diagnosis and stratify patients. 6) Make connections to comorbidity and wellness. 7) Implement computational drug repurposing approaches.
